Biomass and the Environment

Combustion of biomass radiates a lot of toxins, very much like consuming other strong fills like coal. Consuming natural material radiates particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), lead, mercury, and other dangerous air toxins (HAPs).

Biomass is always and widely available as a renewable source of energy. Some of its pros and cons are illustrated below.

Pros

It is carbon neutral.

It reduces the overreliance of fossil fuels.

Is less expensive than fossil fuels.

Biomass production adds an income hotspot for producers.

Less garbage in landfills.

Cons

Biomass energy isn't quite so productive as petroleum derivatives

It isn't totally perfect

Can prompt deforestation.

Biomass plants require a ton of room.
